Independence Wrestling Club

Independence Youth Wrestling was established over 18 years ago, to help the youth of Independece better prepare for the  of High School Collegiate athletics.

About Us

The Independence Youth Wrestling Club, located in Independence, Missouri was formed in over 30 years ago. The club currently consists of approximately 75 members ranging in age from 5 to 14 years. The club's philosophy allows kids to have fun while developing the skills and respect for the sport necessary for success.

WHEN IS THE SEASON?
The season runs from November through March. Practices are held Mondays, Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the William Chrisman High School. Registration is held the first week of Practice at the High School Wrestling room. You can contact us in advance for sign-ups if you like.

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
The club will loan each wrestler a singlet to be worn to tournaments. The club also normally provides each wrestler with practice/warm-up clothing. (E.G., t-shirt) Wrestlers may choose to purchase a pair of wrestling shoes and Headgear.

WHAT IS THE COMPETITION LIKE?
During practice, new wrestlers will be separated from experienced wrestlers. Depending on the number of wrestlers participating, they will also be paired with someone around their own age and weight to the extent possible.

Tournaments are held by various wrestling clubs throughout the state nearly every weekend during the season. There are many held near by. There is usually a nominal fee to participate in these tournaments.

During the tournaments, wrestlers compete against other children their own, age, weight and experience level. The divisions are as follows:

These divisions are further divided by weight and there is usually a novice level at each of the younger divisions.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Fees may vary slightly from year to year but are normally very competitive with other youth sports clubs in the area so please contact us for more information. For 2014 our annual fee will be $110. This fee includes USA Membership card, Singlet rental, and covers year end trophies and awards. We have various opportunities for you to alleviate this cost burden by volunteering to help during our various fund raisers.
